One of the most common questions I am asked in my practice is:  WHAT SHOULD I BE TAKING?  My answer is everything!  But that does NOT mean taking lots and lots of pills or potions.  It means: paying the least for the most AND buying the least to get the most.  More on the next page.  So here goes:  To begin - vitamins basically cleanse and minerals build.

Antioxidants - are primarily vitamins A, C, D, E, CoQ10 and the mineral Selenium.  They keep your body from 'rusting.'  Think deeply colored veggies and fruits!  Dark greens, reds, yellows, purples, etc..  Emphasize veggies at a ratio of 8 to 1 over fruit (sugar- we have too much in our diets already).

The 'fatty' vitamins - A, D, E, F and K need good fat digestion to work properly.  The enzyme 'lipase' is helpful for this along with Liver and Gall Bladder issues.  We'll talk more about that down the page, when talking about 'enzymes.'

The Electrolytes (minerals) - Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium and Sodium could be called 'The Building Block' minerals. The other 60+ are essential, too - but mostly in extremely small amounts.  No matter what your 'health challenge' you should be getting loads of all the minerals, some 70+ all together.  IN FACT, WITHOUT MINERALS, VITAMINS ARE USELESS!  Think vegetables - lots of them!  Greens are especially good.

Amino Acids (protein) - your body can make some, but not all.  You need all of them everyday, because your body is made up mostly of protein.  Uncooked protein is best.  Whey and raw organic eggs are a great combination in the morning.

Good Fats - in spite of what conventional medicine tells you about fat - you need it, everyday.  Your body cannot make all that it needs and it needs a lot.  Most of your brain is fat.  All of your nerves are surrounded by fat.  Your skin is made of cholesterol. (When the sun hits your skin, it makes the best vitamin D money can't buy).  In fact, every single cells in your entire body is surrounded by fat.  You need the right kinds of fat, however.  Omega 3, 6 and 9 - in balance are essential. Fish oil, flax oil, borage oil or primrose oil are great.  A note - a punky Liver or Gall Bladder especially needs good fats.

Last, but not the least on my list, are ENZYMES- digestive enzymes, to be exact.  If you ran 20 miles or digested a Thanksgiving dinner, your body works the hardest breaking down food.  It should!  Digesting properly is the equivalent of refueling your body.  The better the fuel, the better the body.  Protease, Amylase, Lipase, Trypsin and Chymotrypsin are good for starters.  Bromelain and HCl (hydrochloric acid) are also good.  And remember:  IF YOU GET HEARTBURN, THE ODDS ARE -- IT'S NOT THAT YOU HAVE TOO MUCH ACID IN YOUR STOMACH, IT'S THAT YOU HAVE TOO LITTLE.  One tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in water, one half hour before meals, helps most of my clients.  It'll work for you, too.
